Startup Brand Identity

Timeline: January - February 2024
This project was for my Identity and Brand Design course in which I was tasked with designing a wordmark for a startup company based on my name. With a last name like Webb, I knew I wanted my brand to be connected to the “worldwide web” and eventually decided on creating a gaming accessories company.
A large focus of this project was to define a brand mission/purpose for your startup. Upon researching the current gaming accessories industry I found that most brands only appeal to a male demographic. I decided to create a gaming accessories brand called WEBB, which encourages women to explore their interests in online gaming.
Industry Trend Research
Competitors and Industry Stucture
The gaming accessories industry is closely aligned with streaming and console/PC gaming. Brands like Razer, Turtle Beach, and Alienware are the biggest competitors within the gaming accessories industry.
DESTEP Analysis
To understand the external environmental factors and other issues that may impact my brand, I did a DESTEP analysis to further my knowledge of the industry.
As E-sports continue to rise in popularity, the amount of E-waste is also increasing. Through this DESTEP analysis, I determined that my brand needs to consider the environmental impact it will have and utilize recyclable materials to not only appeal to my target demographic, but also aid in lowering E-waste.
Corporate Social Responsibility Trend
A key trend I wanted my brand to address was corporate social responsibility. Actively taking part in Zero Waste practices and addressing the gender inequality within gaming can help differentiate my brand from competitors.
Target Market Analysis
The final part of my industry trend analysis report was understanding the target market. I wanted to target Gen Z because of their high engagement in E-sports, making them more likely to purchase accessories from my brand.
With gaming accessories having male-oriented designs, women are less attracted to investing in PC gaming. I used this research to understand how my brand’s competitors are not meeting the demand for more inclusive products.
WEBB Brand Identity
Mood board
I created two mood boards to compare the current visual design choices made by competitors with the aesthetic I wanted my brand to convey.
Compared to the industry standard of a darker-toned and abrasive vibe, I wanted to embrace the nostalgia associated with gaming and utilize lighter/welcoming colors.

WEBB is a gaming accessories company focused on jump-starting women’s interest in competitive gaming by designing approachable and vibrant accessories
Logo Details
When designing my brand’s logo, I chose this typeface since it felt similar to those found on an old-school laptop. For the brand color palette I wanted to avoid the stereotypical “pink is for girls” motif my competitors use.
